The 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2024) concluded on a powerful note with a deeply moving session by acclaimed Pakistani actor and author Hamza Ali Abbasi. On Sunday evening, the theatre was filled to capacity as an eager audience gathered to hear Abbasi share his transformative journey of faith, self-discovery and reflection, marking a memorable finale to this year’s iconic event.

Abbasi, best known for his performances in celebrated dramas like “Pyaray Afzal” and “Mann Mayal” and films such as “Waar” and “Parwaaz Hai Junoon”, deeply engaged the audience with insights from his book, My Discovery of Islam, God & Judgement Day. The book chronicles his personal journey from faith to agnosticism and back, offering a profound exploration of life’s ultimate questions.

“I spent years wrestling with doubts and searching for satisfying answers about God and religion,” Abbasi shared during the session. “This book is not the work of a scholar, but of an ordinary person documenting a deeply personal journey; one I hope will resonate with others navigating their own paths.”

Having stepped away from his flourishing acting career at its zenith, Abbasi embraced a life focused on spiritual growth and religious advocacy. During his heartfelt discussion, he spoke about the transformative power of faith, crediting it with reshaping his life’s purpose and guiding his values. His candid storytelling and authentic reflections struck a chord with the audience, many of whom found inspiration and solace in his words.

Abbasi also lauded SIBF 2024 for having offered a 12-day platform that encouraged meaningful dialogue and intellectual exchange. “It is a privilege to be part of an event that fosters such significant conversations,” he said. “The passion and warmth I’ve experienced from fans here in Sharjah have been profoundly humbling.”

With Abbasi’s powerful session, SIBF concluded its 43rd edition, cementing its place as one of the region’s and the world’s most influential literary and cultural gatherings.
