The Department of Government Relations (DGR) in Sharjah, under the chairmanship Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, welcomed His Excellency Tracy Reynolds, Consul General of Canada in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, to the House of Wisdom for a pivotal meeting. The discussions focused on advancing cultural, technological and healthcare partnerships, aiming to enhance bilateral relations between Sharjah and Canadian cities.

The dialogue also emphasised strengthening collaboration in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and entrepreneurship, with both parties identifying significant opportunities for joint initiatives. Recognizing Canada’s global expertise in AI, Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi and His Excellency Tracy Reynolds explored potential partnerships to support innovative projects and startups in Sharjah’s dynamic AI sector.

“We are committed to building meaningful partnerships that contribute to Sharjah’s position as a global hub for innovation and culture. Collaborating with Canada offers great potential for us to drive forward advancements in artificial intelligence and support the growth of startups, particularly through Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park (SRTIP),” said Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi.

Sheikh Fahim highlighted that the DGR will coordinate a visit for His Excellency Reynolds to the SRTIP. This visit will aim to deepen collaborations between academic and scientific institutions from both regions, with a focus on technological innovation and startup development.

Fostering educational and medical exchange
In addition to technological advancements, the meeting also addressed strengthening educational ties, particularly in the medical field. Discussions included plans to connect the Consul General with the University of Sharjah and University Hospital, laying the groundwork for enhanced academic partnerships and joint medical training initiatives.

Cultural dialogue and global partnerships
Cultural exchange was another focal point of the meeting. Sheikh Fahim shared updates on Sharjah’s ongoing cultural initiatives, including the development of the International Cultural Centre, slated for completion in late 2025. The centre is poised to be a global hub for intercultural dialogue and will further Sharjah’s position as a capital of arts and culture.

HE Reynolds expressed his admiration for Sharjah’s rich cultural and historical offerings. “It is a pleasure to engage with the Department of Government Relations in Sharjah and witness firsthand the emirate’s dedication to culture, knowledge, and innovation. I look forward to exploring opportunities for collaboration in healthcare, technology, and cultural exchange, which will undoubtedly strengthen the bonds between Canada and Sharjah,” he said.

He further expressed his excitement about visiting key cultural sites in Sharjah, including the Mleiha Archaeological Center and Al Bhais Geological Park, which will provide him with a deeper understanding of Sharjah’s unique heritage.

Strengthening diplomatic ties
Sheikh Fahim underscored DGR’s ongoing efforts to deepen international relations, positioning Sharjah as a beacon of cultural and technological excellence. This high-level meeting with the Canadian Consul serves as a significant step toward furthering bilateral cooperation that benefits both regions.

Also in attendance at the meeting were Sheikh Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of the Department, and Kieth Banerjee, Head of Public Affairs at the Canadian Consulate.
