Sharjah Ladies Club’s ‘Heroes Challenge’ Makes Overcoming Obstacles A Whole Lot Of Fun For 100 Children
Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) turned its pristine beachfront into an adventurous playground for 100 young girls and boys as they scaled over walls, crawled under nets and flipped tires in the first edition of the superheroes-themed, Heroes Challenge, on December 19, 2019.
Children participated in the obstacle-course race challenge, which was designed to ignite passion for sport and physical activity in the young ones, while also encouraging them to become healthier by exercising in a safe, friendly environment.
Girls aged 5 – 8 and 9 – 11, and boys, aged 5 – 8, received a detailed briefing before the start of the event. The race began with ‘Sandbag Drag’ where a choice of two weight options were provided. They then scaled up the ‘Wall Climb’ before running up steps and jumping over the ‘Step Jump’.
Using their skills of coordination and agility, they crawled up the ‘Net Climb’ before racing up to the 1.5m high wooden tripod to ring the bell at the top. The ‘Log Jump’ obstacle saw them jump across tree trunks and planks while they had to move on their stomachs to get through the ‘Net Crawl’.
The Heroes Challenge ended with kids flipping tires of different sizes in a nail-biting dash to the finish line.
Following the winners’ presentation ceremony, where the first winners of each category were awarded with cash rewards, children enjoyed a magic show and swayed to the rhythmic beats during the African drums show.
Varied arts and crafts activities and face painting were amongst the other fun activities for the younger children, including hair braiding and glitter provided by Orchid Beauty Boutique. The event concluded with a draw on different prizes for participating children and their mothers presented by Daalouk Spa.
All participants received a Heroes’ race pack consisting of a T-shirt and cap.
