Sharjah Islamic Bank, in cooperation with Sharjah Charity International, launched its Ramadan community initiative “Mirk at your doorsteps” for the second year in a row, distributing 4000 food boxes to families in need. The initiative is part of the bank’s value of social responsibility and supporting and promoting charitable work.

Adapting community initiatives

Hassan Al Balghouni, Head of Corporate Communications at Sharjah Islamic Bank, said: “The “Mirkat your doorsteps” initiative is part of Sharjah Islamic Bank’s endeavours to harmonize operations and community initiatives with the measures in place due to the coronavirus pandemic. The bank has organized annual initiatives during Ramadan for 16 years which fall in line with our charitable mission during the holy month, by providing Ramadan Iftar tents which provide meals to fasting people throughout the emirate of Sharjah. For the last two years, we have adapted this initiative by organising door-to-door deliveries.”

He added, “The distribution of the Ramadan Mir began on the first day of the holy month and involves the distribution of boxes filles with basic necessities, including rice, sugar, salt, oil, flour, milk, wheat, and lentils.”

Following the highest standard of hygienic procedures and measures

This year, the distribution of the Ramadan Mir, in coordination with the Sharjah Charity International, includes all areas of the city of Sharjah, in addition to Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and the Eastern Region. The initiative has been carried out with the highest level of health procedures and measures set by the health authorities to combat the coronavirus pandemic. From collecting and packing to shipping and distributing, the distribution of the food boxes has been supervised by a specialized team of Sharjah Islamic Bank employees to ensure quality and instil the spirit of volunteer work in the heart of its employees.

Organizing the distribution process according to a specific timetable

A list of deserving families was supplied to the bank by Sharjah Charity International, with one Mir box given to small families and two or more boxes to larger families. The beneficiaries are being contacted ahead of time through a specialized team to determine the locations and residential areas that can help better facilitate the distribution process, to ensure the Mir boxes have been received seamlessly by families.

Mir Ramadan Funds for families of people with disabilities

The bank also coordinated with Al Thiqah Club for Handicapped in Sharjah to sponsor the launch of the Ramadan Funds Initiative for 170 families of people with disabilities.
