Al Khan Beach 2 in Sharjah was a scene of revelry as children and adults alike partook in storytelling and reading sessions against the backdrop of a gorgeous sunset. These activities have inaugurated the second phase of the Sharjah Beach Library initiative, which is part of the Sharjah World Book Capital (SWBC) 2019 celebrations. The move is aimed at raising awareness about books and fostering a robust culture of reading among all segments of the community by providing books where the community spends time, such as beaches.

The initiative, which entails the building of 100-title beach libraries, was launched by the Sharjah World Book Capital Office (SWBC Office) in cooperation with Sharjah’s leading institutions. The library’s literary selection has been made to appeal to readers of all age groups.

On inaugural day, the new library at the Al Khan Beach 2 attracted many beach goers, particularly children. The storytelling arena was a favourite, where they had fun with their peers while enjoying their favourite stories.
