Sharjah Archaeology Authority Opens Submissions For The “Sharjah Journal For Archaeological Studies” And Announces An International Advisory Board Of Leading Scholars
The Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA) has announced the opening of applications and submissions for publication in the Sharjah Journal for Archaeological Studies, a peer-reviewed academic journal issued under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The initiative reflects SAA’s commitment to supporting specialized scientific research and reinforcing Sharjah’s position as a leading knowledge hub in the fields of archaeology and cultural heritage.
Advisory Board of Distinguished International Experts
The journal is supported by a distinguished advisory board comprising a select group of prominent international scholars and experts in archaeology and cultural heritage. The board includes Her Highness Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the American University of Sharjah (AUS), alongside several renowned academic figures from the region and around the world. These include Dr. Nuria Sanz Gallego, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo; Dr. Salman Al Mahari, Director General of Antiquities at the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities; Dr. Sultan Al Bakri, Advisor to the Minister of Heritage at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in the Sultanate of Oman; and Professor Nasser Saeed Al Jahwari, Professor of Archaeology at Sultan Qaboos University and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Oman Studies.
The advisory board also includes Professor Atef Mansour, Professor of Islamic Archaeology, international numismatics expert, and former Dean of the Faculty of Archaeology at Fayoum University; Professor AbdeljalilBouzouggar, archaeologist and anthropologist and Director General of the National Institute of Archaeology and Heritage in Morocco; Professor Carmen del Cerro Linares, Head of the Spanish Mission at Al Thuqeibah site and Professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid; Dr. Mercedes FarjasAbadía, Head of the Spanish Mission working in Khorfakkan, Wadi Al Helo and Kalba and Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid; and Professor Nabil Hanoun Aliwi, Professor of Cuneiform Studies and Archaeology from Iraq.

The advisory board plays a central role in supporting the journal both scientifically and strategically by providing expert guidance to the editorial team in shaping editorial policies and future plans, strengthening academic quality standards, and ensuring adherence to international publishing ethics. The Sharjah Journal for Archaeological Studies is a multidisciplinary, peerreviewed academic publication dedicated to research in archaeology, civilization, and tangible cultural heritage in the Arabian Peninsula and its coastal regions, from prehistoric times through historical, Islamic, and modern periods. It also encourages comparative academic perspectives with geographically and culturally connected regions.
