The Sharjah Animation Conference (SAC), which has been an integral and exciting component of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) for the past couple of years, has unveiled rich, compelling and wide ranging themes for its upcoming 3rd annual edition, set to enrich discussions and inspire creativity from May 1 to 4 at Sharjah Expo Centre.
The conference opens with a global outlook, highlighting innovative opportunities such as AI-driven children’s content and powerful case studies on effective communication through animation. Audiences will explore the expanding influence of animation across diverse regions, including the MENA and African markets.
The following day is dedicated to the art of storytelling, showcasing creative techniques that breathe life into memorable characters and scenes. SAC will honour milestones, including the significant 90th anniversary of the Arab world’s animation heritage, alongside sessions that illuminate animation’s pivotal role in cultural and festive narratives.
Japan, renowned globally for its anime excellence, is at the heart of day three, providing rare insights from leading creators like Nobuyoshi Habara and industry trailblazers from POLYGON Pictures. Discussions will uncover the intricate processes behind celebrated anime productions and the unique cultural phenomena of anime tourism.
Concluding the event, the final day underscores animation’s unique ability to translate literature into vibrant visual experiences. Experts will share strategies for effectively adapting written stories into engaging animations, bridging the creative worlds of publishers and producers to foster impactful global storytelling.
Reflecting on this year’s distinctive themes, Koula Al Mujaini, Executive Director of SAC, said, “SAC is setting a new global standard for innovation and creativity, fostering a vibrant international dialogue on animation’s evolving role in storytelling and education. This year, we are especially proud to showcase how animation not only entertains but also unites cultures, preserves history, and pioneers new narrative possibilities.”
