Continuing to motivate thousands of girls and women in the UAE to embrace sports and fitness through the six editions of its annual Sharjah Ladies Run, the Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) has opened registrations for the seventh edition of the event, which is one of the largest women-only fitness challenges in the country.

As part of SLC’s ongoing initiatives dedicated to nurturing hobbies and skills of women, it has been announced that the 2020 edition of the run will be held on Friday, March 6, starting 6pm at Sharjah University City, near Skyline University. This year’s run will carry its popular theme, ‘Neon Run’, and follow the same liveliness as the previous editions.

Participants can register in the two different categories of the event – the 5-km and 10-km competitions, along with a 5-km ‘fun run’, which was introduced in the Run last year to encourage more ladies to come together to have fun, and at the same time, strengthen their commitment to pursuing active and healthy lifestyles.

Top three winners of competing race categories will be awarded attractive cash prizes. With a view to encourage and motivate more Emirati participants, SLC will also honour the top three Emirati participants of the races with cash prizes worth a total of AED 54,000.

Khawla Al Serkal, Director General of SLC, said: “Besides creating a nation of active women across age groups and showing fit through sports an integral part of their daily lifestyle, we want to involve the entire female community in shaping a healthier future. Through popular events like Sharjah Ladies Run, our goal is to encourage them to use sports and other fitness activities as a means to maintain healthy bodies and positive mindsets.”

She added: “Sharjah Ladies Run is SLC’s initiative to inspire women from all nationalities and age groups, to take their health seriously and take pride in keeping fit. Last year’s, event hosted more than 1,300 participants from 44 nationalities, including 66 percent Emirati women. These growing numbers are a reflection of the fact that the health conscious female population in the UAE continues to expand, justifying the growing relevance of this run with each passing edition. It will be an evening of fun, entertainment and networking for everybody, besides promoting the message of fitness, and I encourage everyone to participate”.

Several entertaining activities will be organized on the side lines of the event including a zumba party presented by Fitness 180. Food kiosks will serve up a variety of healthy snacks and refreshing beverages to participants.

Registrations can be completed online at www.slc.ae. The four-hour event will be held from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and participants must be above 15 years of age. Part of the registration proceeds will be donated to UAE-based non-profit, Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP).
