Great news for those interested in a first-hand account of what it means to hold arguably the most closely watched and heavily scrutinised leadership position in the world – Barack Obama’s first volume of presidential memoirs, scheduled for a worldwide release on November 17 – can now be pre-booked at the 39th Sharjah International Book Fair.

SIBF 2020 exhibitor, STM Middle East LLC, one of the largest book distributors in the GCC, is accepting pre-orders for A Promised Land: The Presidential Memoirs, Volume 1, a 768-page book that will be the first of two volumes.

To be released in 25 languages around the world, including Arabic, A Promised Land delves into the early political life of the former US President and covers his 2008 presidential campaign.

Published by Crown, an imprint of Penguin Random House, A Promised Land is the riveting account of Barack Obama’s improbable odyssey from a young man searching for his identity to a leader. In strikingly personal detail, Obama describes both his earliest political aspirations and the landmark moment when he was elected 44th president of the United States, becoming the first African American to hold his nation’s highest office.

Extraordinarily intimate and introspective, the author writes frankly about how living in the White House affected his wife and daughters, and openly expresses his self-doubts and disappointment as he talks of the period of dramatic transformation and turmoil that marked the first term of his historic presidency.

Announcing the book two months ago, Obama had said in a statement on social media: “I’ve spent the last few years reflecting on my presidency, and in A Promised Land I’ve tried to provide an honest accounting of my presidential campaign and my time in office: the key events and people who shaped it, my take on what I got right and the mistakes I made, and the political, economic, and cultural forces that my team and I had to confront then — and that as a nation we are grappling with still.”

With two previous multi-million bestselling books to his credit, Barack Obama’sDreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope were both cited as aiding his campaign in 2008 and making him the country’s first African American president.

The second volume of A Promised Land will cover the second term of his Presidency. A release date has not yet been announced.
