Young media arts enthusiasts in the UAE and around the world who have had their creativity stifled by being restricted to their homes due to the current health crisis, now have something amazing to look forward to. FUNN – Sharjah Media Arts For Youth and Children released a series of video workshops on a variety of topics to continue to nurture young generations’ creativity, capabilities and talents.

The workshops consisted of short videos on topics such as photography, animation techniques, creating 3-D models and tips on writing screenplays, offered on FUNN’s social media channels (@funnshj).

The first in the series, presented by popular photographer Khaled Al Shehhi, features mobile photography. This will be followed by videos on other aspects of photography presented by experienced shutterbugs from the UAE as well as GCC countries.

Those interested in animation will be able to learn animation techniques from Jameela Ahmed, including basic 2-D animation such as creating a background as well as how to create objects and animate them. This is the first in a series that will cover different aspects of animation in upcoming videos.

Students of cinema learnt to turn a basic storyline into a screenplay from the video workshop presented by seasoned Emirati actor and screenplay writer Abdulla Al Hemairi.

Fans of 3-D animation have a treat in store for them. In the video workshop on 3-D animation, 3-D generalist Thomas Kutschera, who is a part of the team at Pixomondo which designs the special effects and dragons for the hugely popular television series Game of Thrones, taught them how to turn a flat image into a 3-D model.

Video workshops on other topics will be added at a later stage. Future live workshops are also being planned by FUNN to benefit young media arts enthusiasts not only in the UAE, but around the world.
