One of India’s biggest sports legends, former Indian national cricket team’s captain and commentator, the outspoken Sourav Ganguly makes his debut appearance at the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) 2021 on Saturday, November 13.
Aptly title ‘Dada Unplugged’ (Ganguly is popularly known as Dada, or big brother in India and around the world), the session taking place from 3.30 – 5.00 pm, will witness Ganguly recapping his illustrious cricketing career, his ups and downs, and eventual elevation to becoming the administrator of India’s biggest sport. He will also discuss his well-received book A Century is Not Enough which recounts the monumental challenges he had to overcome to reach a position of eminence in the game.
What promises to be an electrifying 90 minutes of conversation with one of the world’s most known faces in modern-day world-class sport, will take place in Expo Centre Sharjah’s Ballroom.
Ganguly made his international debut in 1996 and retired in 2008. During his 12-year-long career, he amassed 18,575 runs with 38 tons and 107 half-centuries. He became a household name during his captaincy stint, where he led India to the 2002 Natwest Trophy, the 2003 ODI World Cup final and won a Test series in Pakistan in 2004. In addition, the Men in Blue were declared joint-winners in the 2002 Champions Trophy under his leadership.
He mentored many upcoming cricketers during his captaincy, most of whom went on to become big names in Indian cricket; such as Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammed Kaif, Irfan Pathan, MS Dhoni, Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan, among others. Since late 2019, Ganguly is serving as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President.
