Bee’ah, the Middle East’s sustainability and technology pioneer, recently secured the ‘Sustainability’ and ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ awards during the 2019 International Business Excellence Awards, which were held recently at the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel, Dubai.

Now in its fifth edition, the International Business Excellence Awards enable businesses to showcase their achievements and successes with the annual participation of hundreds of leading local, regional and international organizations who compete across 34 categories, to gain recognition for implementing outstanding initiatives across the world.

To mark the occasion, H.E Khaled Al Huraimel, Bee’ah’s Group CEO stated, “We are honored to be recognized for our robust and diverse sustainability and CSR efforts. These awards are a testament to Bee’ah’s holistic approach to operational excellence, and sustainability and CSR are aspects that are deeply-ingrained in our brand ethos and vision to pioneer a sustainable quality of life throughout the MENA region. We have harnessed the power of technology and invested in next-generation, green innovations to support a future-ready economy and sustainable development, while effectively serving the needs of communities, municipalities and commercial establishments at home and abroad.”

Al Huraimel also highlighted the great emphasis that Bee’ah places on CSR and community engagement as the company seeks to either lead or participate in long-term initiatives and programs that have a resounding impact through clear roadmaps, continuity and carefully-measured KPI’s to achieve tangible results and benefit communities.

The Bee’ah School of Environment (BSOE) serves as Bee’ah flagship community engagement platform in its capacity as a UAE-wide environment education initiative that aims to raise awareness and create a greener generation through a wide range of online and offline interactive tools and activities. It is an important example of an effective initiative that combines education, outreach and sustainability to develop a more environmentally-aware greener generation. Since its foundation in 2009, BSOE has gone from strength to strength through ongoing expansion and the diversification of its offerings as it now reaches more than 250,000 students and 6,000 teachers of all ages across the country.

Recently, the Bee’ah School of Environment hosted the 9th edition of the Environmental Excellence School Awards, celebrating teachers and students from over 400 schools for their creative environmental-related solutions, thus encouraging the future ‘green generation’ to adapt sustainable behaviors for the benefit of the United Arab Emirates and its environment.

Leveraged by its continually-evolving track record in sustainability, Bee’ah’s successes in the vital domain were recognized on a holistic level at the 2019 International Business Excellence Awards, from its leadership in waste management and its key contribution to a circular economy through key business units such as Tandeef; the company’s waste collection and public cleansing arm, and Tadweer, Bee’ah’s waste recovery and treatment unit, which has facilitated a waste diversion rate of 76% in Sharjah; which is the highest in the Middle East.

Other key sustainability highlights include the region’s first ‘Waste-to-Energy’ facility that is being developed and managed through the Emirates Waste to Energy Company, a joint venture with Masdar. The facility will process 300,000 tonnes of waste per year, to generate 30 MW of clean energy and power thousands of homes. This facility will also help Sharjah to become the first zero-waste city in the region by 2021.

In addition, Bee’ah has driven its agenda for building a modern economy by merging sustainability and technology, to introduce the region’s first fully-integrated AI building. The state-of-the-art headquarters will be developed under the supervision of the company’s technology arm; Evoteq, who will work with Johnson Controls and Microsoft to leverage AI and optimize overall energy conservation through the building’s digital features.

Furthermore, Evoteq, Bee’ah’s digital venture, is driving digital transformation across the region, through innovative solutions such as Sharjah’s first blockchain platform. ION; a joint venture between Bee’ah and Crescent Enterprises, is also setting new benchmarks for sustainable transportation within the UAE, leading towards a zero-emissions transport infrastructure.
