A Galactic Journey In A Jam Jar At SIBF 2019
All the fun of the fair was to be had yesterday at the Sharjah International Book Fair 2019 as performers, entertainers and teachers from around the world came together to educate and inspire young and old alike.
Over in the Kids Hall where many of the workshops were taking place a group of lucky youngsters queued up to join a Galactic Jar making session.
Hosted by filmmaker and creative workshop facilitator, Sara Mezher from Lebanon, participants created sparkling and magical delights using jam jars and glitter.
“I love space and the stars; I find it so inspiring and love to watch this enthusiasm in the kids as they add stars and glitter and other ingredients in different colours to their Galactic Jars. It is just so enjoyable, it makes us all happy,” explains Sara.
With fingers sticky from gelatine (used to keep glitter afloat in water) and covered in an assortment of bright glittery shapes from sparking stars to new moons, the children enthusiastically made their own galaxy’s which spun and shone and in all the excitement.
Suitable for children aged six and over, the idea is to instil in them the wonder of space along with the fun of creativity, Sara added.
The Galactic Jars workshop is one of many being held and the book fair which is taking place at the Sharjah Expo Centre from October 30 to November 9 2019. Sara will be hosting several workshops, all with a creative space or jam jar theme.
