H.E Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Chairman (SCCI’s Chairman), recently received H.E. Shri Vipul, the Consul General of India in Dubai at the SCCI headquarters, where the two sides discussed the joint economic relations and means of enhancing the role of industrial and commercial sectors and competent authorities in light of the fruitful cooperation between the two friendly countries, in addition to exchanging views about how to take advantage to the expertise available in both sides in establishing joint investment projects.

The meeting was held in the presence of HE Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, SCCI’s Director-General and Heba Mohammed Al Marzouqi, SCCI’s Executive Director of the First Business Councils and the Joint Committees.

The meeting also shed light on developing and reinforcing the economic ties between the UAE and India in general and Sharjah in particular, as well as exploring commercial and investment cooperation opportunities between the two countries.

Mutual Interests

“The relationship between the UAE and India is a historical one based on the mutual respect and interests in many social, cultural, and particularly economic areas, where the UAE is one of India’s largest trading partners in the Middle East, while India is the first trade partner of the UAE,” said H.E Abdullah Sultan Al Owais.

He pointed out the SCCI is fully aware of these common privileges, something which boosted the opportunities for exchanging visits and trade missions and organizing specialized business meetings, to help push economic cooperation and areas of partnership between them to broader horizons.

He noted: “The SCCI is very keen on fostering relations between Sharjah and India by enhancing cooperation and communication and carrying out joint investment projects between the business communities in both sides, so as to serve the interests of the two friendly countries towards further growth and prosperity.”

Al Owais expressed hope that this meeting will help set the foundations for future cooperation in the various economic events and developing an action plan for exchanging visits between trade delegations, in addition to actively participating in public and specialized events and exhibitions held either in Sharjah or in India.

This would help enhance investment opportunities to raise rates of trade between the two sides and to achieve a perfect trade partnership at various levels, he concluded.

Continuing vigorous Efforts

Commending the solid relationship between India and the UAE in general and with the Emirate of Sharjah in particular, H.E. Shri Vipul underlined that this visit is part of the strenuous efforts made to develop the bilateral cooperation, in light of the fast-growing economic and commercial business and the investment inflows between the two countries.

Vipul lauded the universal development process witnessed by the Emirate of Sharjah and its economic development and its prestigious position as an active economic hub regionally, with numerous advantages for the Indian businessmen investing in the Emirate.

He underlined that Sharjah has a lot of investment qualities, facilities, and privileges, urging the businessmen from both sides to consolidate the trade relations and work on establishing long-term partnerships between the two friendly countries.

Development of Joint Economic Work

HE Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadi said: “We, at the SCCI, have high ambitions for developing joint economic work with India, and the Chamber will spare no effort to raise the level of commercial relations between the two friendly countries, in addition to providing all the support and assistance to Indian companies.”

He reviewed the economic scene in the Emirate of Sharjah, its attractive investment benefits, the services provided by the SCCI to companies wishing to invest in the Emirate and its role in maintaining sustainability in the march of commercial and industrial development through many added-value services and active contributions in achieving growth and prosperity for the business environment.

Furthermore, the meeting touched on the privileges and services provided by the Expo Centre Sharjah to exhibitors, as being a vital international platform that enables companies to offer their products and services, meet with the right partners, expand their business, and open new markets.

Additionally, the meeting highlighted the role of the Sharjah Center for International Commercial Arbitration in spreading the culture of arbitration among businessmen, professionals and legal professionals at the local, regional and international levels and its role in providing training programs, workshops and lectures in arbitration field in cooperation with the best educational institutions and specialists in the fields.
