Ahmed El Ghandour, Egyptian researcher and content maker who makes science fun and accessible to millions around the world, presented an episode of his popular science series from a packed ballroom at the 41st Sharjah International Book Fair, combining it with his trademark humour to entertain and educate visitors at the event.

Popularly known as ‘Al Daheeh’, Ghandour has amassed fans and followers around the world with his Al Daheeh show, which simplifies scientific knowledge and has clocked more than 250 million views since its debut in 2014.

At SIBF 2022, ‘Al Daheeh’ covered a broad range of topics including nature, history, economy, and technology. The popular host also discussed how ‘Smiles’ are a universal language capable of transcending differences and distances between people.

Al Daheeh expressed his happiness for the opportunity to bring his show at SIBF 2022, in front of a large number of his fans and to interact with the audience directly in contrast to merely watching the rising video viewership on his YouTube channel.

During the session, El Ghandour shared fascinating nuggets of information on the functions of the human body and the invention of the guillotine during the French Revolution, before moving on to the history of science and exploring how the belittling of the human experience of other nations and cultures deeply undermined the credibility of the studies of several scientists across Europe.

The session also featured the presentation of fascinating trivia, including how the human brain can memorise the same amount of data found on the internet and how although the brain consumes 20 percent of the body’s energy, it represents a mere 2 percent of the weight of the human body.

Al Daheeh also pointed out that the nose is a marginalised body part compared to the eyes and ears, despite its profound impact on the sense of taste.

Organised by Sharjah Book Authority, the scientific session reinforced the vital role of content creators in providing valuable knowledge in various fields based on their research and the art of simplifying such knowledge to make it more accessible to the younger generation in their preferred choices of audio-visual formats.

Commenting on his participation in SIBF 2022, El Ghandour expressed his pride in being part of the largest book fair in the world. He pointed out that his show originated at home and evolved into a big team of researchers and content creators as it became popular with audiences. He said he was overwhelmed with happiness to work alongside his team in a vibrant setting in front of a packed ballroom at one of the top cultural events in the UAE and the world.
