Sharjah Munshid – the Sharjah TV talent contest, which has been shedding the spotlight on exceptional young vocal talents ‘munshids’ practicing the Islamic-inspired musical genre of ‘Inshad’, has announced its 12th season.
The contest is looking for young men in the 18 – 28 age group, who can perform a meaningful nasheed in under 3 minutes.
From 14 – 21 September, the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority affiliate will be conducting auditions in six Arab countries, namely, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Jordan and the UAE. The contest will be accepting online applications from other young munshids from around the world on their website: www.sba.net.ae/munshid
Najmaldeen Hashem, the show’s Executive Producer, said: “Sharjah Munshid is the largest talent show of its kind. Inspired by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for Sharjah to be a regional and global hub for the preservation of Islamic arts and culture, we are determined to continue with the success of this show by offering young munshids our platform to showcase their talent and their love for Inshad.”
“The number of vocalists we audition, and the applications sent in by others who we are unable to meet personally has been growing steadily each year. This means two things: the global popularity of the programme is increasing and more vocalists are taking interest in this art of rich and impressive chanting of the Nasheed We look forward to meeting new outstanding performers who will make this edition our biggest success yet,” he added.
The top ten candidates in each of the six countries will be shortlisted by a two-member jury of well-known munshids, past winners of the content as well as former participants. Following the auditions phase, the final contestant will be selected, one from each country, to compete on the show.
