Sharjah World Music Festival Continues To Inspire Audiences With Diverse Musical Traditions

The fifth edition of Sharjah World Music Festival (SWMF 2018) is continuing to take audience on a heartwarming journey into the wonderfully diverse world of music, with leading musicians from the Arab and western worldslending a distinct flavourto each concert evening.

Visitors to Al Qasba were treated to an electric blend of musical traditions performed by the Alwan band, featuring zitherist Bassam Abdelsattar who treated the audience to a fantastic fusion of Arabic and Turkish styles.Considered as some of the best musicians in the Middle East, Alwan presented beautiful oriental piecescomprisingclassical music, jazz and blues, among which was a soulful rendition of the legendary Umm Khultum’s ensemble of songs.

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, today unveiled three ground-breaking real estate projects to be developed in Sharjah. Worth a total of AED 2.7 billion, the trio of projects are the result of a joint venture between Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Eagle Hills, an Abu Dhabi-based private real estate investment and development company.

Shurooq and Eagle Hills will work together in a strategic partnership represented by  ‘Eagle Hills Sharjah Development’, a dedicated real estate company that aims to develop the three projects; Maryam Island, Kalba Waterfront and Palace Al Khan. Stunning Flamenco Genius Brings Crowd To Its Feet At Opening Night Of Sharjah World Music Festival

A spectacular Andalusian performance by one the world’s most talented contemporary flamenco artists yesterday (Saturday) showed why the Sharjah World Music Festival (SWMF) is becoming a lynchpin in the emirate’s – and the UAE’s – international cultural calendar.

On the opening night of the fifth edition of SWMF, presented by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) in a strategic partnership with Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) and Al Majaz Amphitheatre, and organised by Furat Qaddouri Music Centre, Vicente Amigo and his outstanding support musicians prompted several standing ovations by the crowd during the first concert at The Flag Island Amphitheatre.

Complete with a breath-taking performance of supreme flamenco dancer Primivito Daza, multi-award winning Amigo performed many of his own compositions with a pace and a passion that had the audience of all ages transfixed.


Al Badayer Desert Roars Into Life As 50 International Desert Drivers And Dune Bashers Rev Up For SSDF 2018

Al Badayer Desert is all set to become a roaring arena today as it hosts the second edition of the highly-anticipated Sharjah Sports Desert Festival (SSDF 2018), promising desert motorsport enthusiasts non-stop adrenaline pumping, dune bashing action.

Themed ‘Become a Desert Hero,’ the emirate’s most popular and exciting off-road competition is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and is organised by Sharjah Sports TV, a subsidiary of Sharjah Media Corporation.

The venue opens its doors to spectators at 7am, with racing all the way through to 6pm, but prior to the competitions, visitors can enjoy a taste of what’s to come as the riders and drivers take part in 30-minute warm-up sessions to get their engines up to speed. The buggy races will begin at 9:50am, followed by the MX1 and MX2 competition at 10:15am. The second round for the same categories – all taking part in the ‘Enduro Knockout’ challenge – start at 11am, with the finals at 3:35pm.

Sharjah Sports Desert Festival Welcomes Exceptional International Off-Road Champions


The second edition of the electrifying Sharjah Sports Desert Festival (SSDF) has announced a line-up of some of the world’s best desert bikers and dune riders who will be competing in the spectacular thrills and spills event on Friday, January 12, at Al Badayer Desert in Sharjah. Themed ‘Become a Desert Hero’, the emirate’s most popular off-road racing competition is organised by Sharjah Sports TV, a subsidiary of Sharjah Media Corporation (SMC).

The off-roaders will compete in the preliminary endurance races, with 15 participants qualifying for the white-knuckle ‘Time Challenge’ races in each category, including Motor Cross 1 (MX1), Motor Cross 2 (MX2), Desert All-terrain Vehicles (ATV) and Utility Task Vehicles (UTV), also known as Side by Side (SxS).

Among the big names participating in the emirate’s most-highly anticipated desert sporting event will be South African champion Michael Docherty, also known as Iron Mike, champion of DMX 2017, who will race in the MX1 class. British motocross rider Ryan Blair, champion of DMX 2017 will compete in the Motor Cross 2 (MX2), along with compatriot Daniel Hutchinson, one of the great masters in KTM racing and member of the Al Balooshi racing team.

Al Majaz Amphitheatre Postpones Abdallah Al Rowaished And Balqees Concert To January 19

Al Majaz Amphitheatre, a subsidiary of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), has announced that the concert of Kuwaiti singer Abdallah Al Rowaished and Emirati singer Balqees, which forms part of the fifth edition of the Sharjah World Music Festival (SWMF), has been postponed to January 19. Originally planned to take place on January 12, the concert has been rescheduled because of the sudden death of Balqees’ father-in-law.

The management of Al Majaz Amphitheatre has expressed their heartfelt condolences and extended their deepest sympathies to Balqees and her family, praying that Almighty God grants the departed eternal peace and his family the strength to bear the pain of his loss.

Al Majaz Amphitheatre management says that those who have purchased tickets for the concert can use the same for the new date. If the rescheduled timing is not convenient, they can obtain a refund from the same service counter where the tickets were bought, or at if purchased online at the site.


Sharjah World Music Festival to Hold ‘Magical Classic and Jazz Night’

Sharjah World Music Festival 2018 (SWMF), presented by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) in a strategic partnership with Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) and Al Majaz Amphitheatre, and organised by Furat Qaddouri Music Centre, has announced a magical evening of classical music and jazz on January 18, 2018, at The Flag Island Amphitheatre.

Multi-award winning violinist, singer, dancer and Theremin player Katica Illényi, one of Hungary’s most versatile and popular musicians, and Mohammed Othman Siddiq, who will be conducting the SWMF Orchestra, will star in a sublime evening at the fifth edition of the festival, which runs from 12 to 19 January.

Ms Illényi has been honoured with some of Hungary’s most prestigious state awards and her recordings have earned her several gold and platinum record sales internationally, adding to her reputation as a musician whose talents span many genres and cultures.

Al Majaz Waterfront’s Spectacular Display Lights Up The Skies For 2018

Sharjah’s Al Majaz Waterfront captivated the crowds last night with a spectacular 10-minute New Year celebration of fireworks that lit up the skies for miles around the emirate. The anticipated audience flocked to the area to countdown the clock to welcome2018 and were treated to one of the most mesmerising displays in the city.
